News: Minister Of Niger Delta Affairs, Godwill Akpabio Asked To Resign

The minister of Niger Delta affairs, Godswill Akpabio, has been asked to resign from his office over the allegations of fraud against him

The minister of Niger Delta affairs, Godswill Akpabio, has been asked to resign from his office over alleged fraud said to have occurred at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) under his watch.

The demand for Akpabio’s resignation was made by Jackson Lekan Ojo, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a chat with Vanguard.

Ojo said the minister should be removed from office the same way Ibrahim Magu, chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was removed from office when faced with allegations of wrongdoings.

“The minister should step aside or should be suspended to pave way for a thorough investigation,” he said.

Ojo pointed out that the minister has failed to respond to allegations of fraud made by Joy Nunieh a former managing director of the NDDC against him.

Meanwhile, the former managing director of the NDDC, Joy Nunieh, has made a defence for herself in respect to the allegations engulfing the body.

During her appearance before the House of Representatives’ committee on NDDC on Friday, July 17, Nunieh stated that she was not in any way connected to the financial fraud claims in the commission to the tune of N40 billion, Channels TV reported.

The former NDDC boss categorically stated that she did not touch the money meant for the development of the Niger Delta indigenes.

She claimed that her residence in Port Harcourt was besieged by police officers on Thursday, July 16, to stop her from making the testimony as summoned by the lower legislative body.

In another report, as the corruption mess in the NDDC continues to dig deeper, the House of Representatives has summoned the minister of Niger Delta, Godswill Akapbio.

Akpabio was slammed with a summon notice on Friday, July 17, by the House of Reps committee on the Niger Delta commission.

Professor Kemebradikumo Pondei, the managing director of the commission, was also summoned barely 24 hours he walked out of the probing committee.
